After entering into executive session to discuss personnel, the council reassembled and named Swords to the interim position. She has been serving in that capacity for more than a month.
The council also approved several items, including a text amendment to the sign ordinance to allow for LED and LCD signage. The council also accepted the final plat for Cumberland Estates Phase IIA for the platting of four lots; that measure was approved last week by Emerson Planning and Zoning Commission. Lastly, the council voted to enter into an intergovernmental agreement with Bartow County for the November election. The cost is estimated to be $4,409.
In other council action:
* Stacey Lane was recognized for receiving his state license as a Water Operator Class 3 and Wastewater Operator Class 3.
* It was announced that the Red Top Circle water main replacement was sent out for bid.
* Emerson Police Chief Stan Bradley discussed the results of a recent amnesty program involving those who owed fines and fees to the department.
Emerson will hold a town hall meeting tonight at 5:30 at city hall.
