Elijah Robinson paced the Eagles with 24 points and Rudy Winters jarred the nets for 18.
Coach Jon-Michael Nickerson said Robinson’s performance was especially sweet because the strong forward was able to put behind him a bad night on the hardwood the previous night.
“He had an extremely rough game against Chattooga [Friday night] and I talked with him afterwards and told him, ‘It’s important you come to the game with a different mindset. The sun’s going to rise tomorrow and we’ll see if you have short-term memory because that’s what you need.’ He came out and played exceptionally well for us.”
Robinson and Winters accounted for their team’s first 17 points on the evening. Jalen McKeller chipped in the final two baskets of the first quarter, during which Excel ran out to a 21-11 lead.
