Excel splits in tennis

The Excel girls won their fourth match in a row while the boys fell to Mount Paran Christian in high school tennis play this week.

Excel decisioned Mount Paran, 3-2, while the Eagles were swept, 5-0.

In girls singles play, Moriah Hibbard won, 6-2, 6-4; Miriam Hibbard won, 7-5, 6-2; and Callaway Ford fell, 0-6, 0-6.

In doubles play, Caroline Moore and Taylor Vaughan lost at the No. 1 line, 1-6, 6-7 (5-7), while Abby Keefe and Tessa Thornbrough won at the No. 2 position, 6-1, 6-3.

Excel improved to 4-0 overall with the victory.

Excel next plays Tuesday, when it visits Cedartown for a game scheduled to start at 4 p.m.

Mount Paran 5, Excel 0

One game after earning its first-ever sweep, against Trion, Excel got a taste of how the other side feels as it fell 5-0 to Mount Paran.
