The Lady Eagles are now 2-1 as coach Chad Parker’s softball team beat Coosa Thursday night on the road by a score of 15-7.

Excel got down early after a five-run first inning by Coosa and then another run in the second. Shay Sullins came on after the first inning and gave up two more runs, partially due to some poor defense.

However, the freshmen would settle down and pitch a strong five innings of work.

Excel’s bats came through in a big way. The team scored four runs in the third inning and had six straight hits during the frame.

Lindsey Adams went 3-for-4 as did Andrea Taylor and Brighton McCollom, who added a home run.

Lady Tigers fall

The Lady Tigers struggled defensively Thursday at Gordon Central as they took a 14-6 loss in six innings to fall to 0-2 on the season.

Adairsville got down early due to some defensive miscues.

Gordon Central scored three runs in the first inning and proceeded to blow the game open in the fourth inning.

However, the young team fought back to make the game closer and Hannah Knapp responded with a three-run homer of her own.

“We were in the game for the first four innings. We scored more runs today and had less errors,” coach Kandace Bruno said. “I’m proud of the girls. All we can ask for is that they get better every game.”
