The alert, issued at 3:06 p.m., goes into effect at 7 p.m. and continues late into the night.
"Showers and thunderstorms developing ahead of an approaching cold front will spread rainfall amounts of 1 to 3 inches in the watch area this evening and overnight," reads to NWS statement. "Rainfall amounts of 2 to 4 inches have occurred over the area of concern during the past 7 days. Moist soil conditions continue to exist from previous rain events. This will allow run off into nearby streams, creeks and rivers causing rapid rises and minor flooding of smaller creeks, streams and low-lying, flood-prone areas."
The NWS advises caution be taken during a flash flood watch: monitor forecasts, be prepared to take action and never drive into or play in flooded areas -- reminding motorists to "turn around and don't drown."
