Mr. Jefferson was born May 8, 1925, in Bartow County, a son of the late Rufus Jefferson and Ada Ingram Jefferson.
He was a member of the First Congregational Methodist Church of Cartersville and was a retired Clerk of Court for Bartow County serving for three terms from 1980 to 1992. He served as Chief Deputy Clerk of the Court for 12 years prior to his service as Head Clerk. Before his career at the Bartow County Courthouse, Mr. Jefferson was employed at EZ Mills.
He had a deep love for his family and they for him. Bud loved to cook, his favorites being cakes, biscuits and corn bread and he joyfully went about living his life.
Preceded in death by his wife, Dixie Carlton Jefferson, survivors include his children and their spouses, Carla Jefferson of Cartersville, Adron and Lynn Jefferson of Cedartown, and Kelly and Jeff Barker of Adairsville; his grandchildren, Katie Ledford, Jordan Ledford, Jeffery Barker, Joshua Jefferson, Olivia Jefferson and Audrey Barker; and one great-grandchild, Harper James. Also surviving are a brother and sister-in-law, Charles and Sara Jo Jefferson of Cartersville, and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Eula Carlton; two sisters, Dot Stokes and Ann Taff; and a brother, Austin Jefferson.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 13, from the First Congregational Methodist Church of Cartersville with Rev. Wayne Rice, Rev. Nathan Sanders and Rev. Barry McCullough officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunset Memory Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Scott Roberts, Jeff Coleman, David Smith, Jordan Ledford, Joshua Jefferson, Jimmy Head and Kevin Avery.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday and Mr. Jefferson will lie in state at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Alzheimer's Association, 922 E. Morris St., Dalton, GA 30721.
