The Cartersville Purple Hurricanes may have only won one game at Perfect Game’s High School Showdown held recently in Fort Myers, Fla.

That one win — a 7-2 victory over Montverde (Fla.) Academy — though was good enough for Canes’ Hayes Linn to be named the tournament’s Most Valuable Pitcher.

His dominating, complete-game performance included 13 strikeouts, while giving up only four hits, two unearned runs and not walking a batter. His ERA for the tournament was a phenomenal 0.00.

The next closest pitcher who had the most strikeouts was eight.

Along with his MV-Pitching honors, Linn and fellow pitcher Connor Justus were named to the tournament’s all-pitching team.

In the eight innings that Justus pitched, he compiled an impressive 1.75 ERA, while striking out seven and allowing only six hits and two earned runs.

Justus also made Perfect Game’s all-hitting team by batting .455 with two doubles, driving in one and scoring twice.

Other Canes’ batters to make the all-tournament team were Ty Fowler, Garrett Rutledge and Tripp Jamieson.
