The headmaster position at Excel Christian Academy is no more, the school said Wednesday.

Former Headmaster Davis Nelson turned in his resignation and said the school feels the position of principal, held by Wesley Roach, will suffice as an administrative position rather than having both a headmaster and principal.

“My recommendation was that [both positions] could be occupied by one person,” Nelson said. “... [Excel] has about 300 students and really one person can do that job. It’s a full job, but for one person.”

Nelson said he has served the school for the past two years, although his role as headmaster originally was estimated as a 30-day temporary position.

“I’ve really enjoyed it ... I think Excel is a good little school, and I think it will continue to move forward,” Nelson said.
