Mr. Cheeks was born March 3, 1932 in Cobb County, the son of the late, Abraham L. and Effie Lee Sanford Cheeks. He was retired from Cobb EMC, was a U.S. Army veteran, was a member of the Georgia Mountain Music Club, the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and was of the Christian faith.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Buddy Cheeks; and two sisters, Jo and Dora.
Surviving is his wife, Sue Cheeks of Kingston; daughter and son-in-law, Joy and Paul Krebs of Fort Worth, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, Mark and Shana Cheeks of Rydal, Mike and Melissa Cheeks of Euharlee, Matt Cheeks of Ranger; eight grandchildren, Andrea, Kyle, Naomi, Alex, Carrie, Becca, Amanda and Allison; a great-grandchild, Mark Lucas; sisters, Louise Dyer of Florida, Aline Conway of Georgia; and nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will held Thursday, July 14, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Owen Funeral Home with Thomas E. Merritt, a family friend, officiating.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday morning from 9 a.m. until the funeral hour.
