In January, Cartersville Police Department Capt. Frank Cline said two suspects wielding a knife entered the home just after 12:30 a.m. The two asked to use a phone because of a broken down vehicle.
Once inside the home, the pair threatened the residents, tying them up with electrical cords. While the residents were incapacitated, the suspects took jewelry and a safe from an office; the two loaded the items into the resident's truck before also taking the vehicle.
A third suspect also was involved. All three pleaded guilty in August.
Roger Dale James and Douglas Mitchell James were sentenced to life plus life on the offenses of burglary, kidnapping, aggravated assault, armed robbery, robbery by intimidation, false imprisonment, theft and felony possession of a firearm.
The third person involved, Ryan Jason Willits, was sentenced 50 years to serve 25 years in prison and 25 years on probation. Willits was charged with burglary, kidnapping, aggravated assault, armed robbery, robbery by intimidation, false imprisonment and theft.
