Home invasion, robbery reported early Monday

An overnight home invasion Monday remained under investigation early Monday afternoon.

Cartersville Police Department Capt. Frank Cline said two suspects wielding a knife entered a 10 Valley Drive home just after 12:30 a.m.

The two asked to use a phone because of a broken down vehicle, according to the report. Once inside the home, the pair threatened the residents, tying them up with electrical cords. While the residents were incapacitated, the suspects took jewelry and a safe from an office; the two loaded the items into the resident's truck before also taking the vehicle.

The pair are described as white males. One is in his late 60s, about 6 feet tall. The other was mid- to late 30s, about 5 feet 11 inches, wearing a red Georgia hoodie.

Fire damages home in Taylorsville

Bartow County Fire Department on Monday worked a residential fire on Popham Road in Taylorsville.

According to personnel, the fire occurred just after 3 a.m. in a master bedroom closet of the mobile home. Smoke was showing upon the arrival of firefighters, who entered through a back door.

One person complained of chest pains and was treated by EMS but refused transport to the hospital. No other injuries were reported, and the home suffered moderate damage in the blaze.

BCFD also attended a fire Saturday evening around 10:30. Smoke was showing from the underpinning of the mobile home on Martin Luther King Jr. Drive in Adairsville upon arrival of firefighters. The smoke was believed to be coming from a buildup of lint in a dryer vent.

Red Cross was called in to assist the family.

Cartersville Fire Department reported no fires in the 24 hours through noon Monday.

Vehicle hits light pole

A 2008 Hyundai Elantra about 7:15 p.m. Sunday struck a light pole on East Main Street near Stonewall Street. The driver suffered low blood sugar, which led to the accident, and was transported to Cartersville Medical Center. The vehicle was damaged extensively; no citation was issued.
