Bartow County Fire Department Battalion Chief David Levey said stations 1, 2, 5, 8 and 13 were dispatched at 9 p.m. to 32 Chestnut Ridge Drive.

Upon arrival, crews found the roof and top floor fully involved. The cause remains under investigation, Levey said.

Although the residents were home at the time, no injuries were reported.

The residence was deemed a total loss.

GPS locates stolen vehicle

Technology aided police Tuesday in recovering a stolen vehicle.

About 6:30 a.m. a Hattie Street resident told Cartersville police her 2008 Mitsubishi Galant had been stolen. At 9:30 a.m. the officer received a call from the lienholder who said GPS on the vehicle had returned to 191 Rowland Springs Road.

Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputies and the officer met at the residence where Nancy Frederick told officers she had no knowledge of how the vehicle arrived in her backyard, the report stated. Frederick, who appeared nervous, according to the officer, then told officers the man responsible was inside the home and asked to be allowed to go get him.

When asked who stole the vehicle, Frederick said, “A guy named Jeffry. He just showed up at my house this morning.” Officers located Jeffry Perry coming from the bathroom. After complying with officers demands to lie down, Perry was detained, telling officers a man named Sammy was responsible for stealing the sedan.

Gregory Samuel Williamson, also located inside the home, said Perry stole the vehicle and had bragged about how he was going to paint the car and change the tag.

Officers then spoke with Frederick again, asking her how the vehicle came to be on her property. She said the men borrowed her car the night before and returned about 8 a.m. Tuesday, stating they had just stolen a vehicle.

Perry told Frederick the car was at a church and the two men borrowed her vehicle to go pick up the Galant, according to the report. Frederick was then taken into custody as well.

Investigators located a prescription belonging to the victim inside Frederick’s nightstand.

Frederick was arrested and charged with theft by taking party to a crime. Perry was arrested and charged with theft by taking, entering an auto and theft by receiving stolen property; Williamson was arrested and charged with theft by taking and entering an auto or other motor vehicle with intent of felony.
