J.M. Neal, 72, of Adairsville, died Tuesday, June 8, 2010.

Mr. Neal was born Jan. 15, 1938, in Bartow County, a son of the late Jesse M. Neal and Della Chastain Neal. He attended Bartow Cumberland Presbyterian Church and was retired from Dan River Mills.

Survivors include a brother, Dave Neal, of Knoxville, Tenn.; two sisters, Frances Poynter of Corbin, Ky., Beatrice Young of Rydal; sisters-in-law, Mary Jo Neal of Kingston, Evelyn Neal and Bobbie Neal, both of Cartersville, Sylvia Neal of Kingsport, Tenn.; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by brothers and sisters, Elbert, Chester, Herman, Clinton, Buren, Tom, Frank and Billy Joe Neal and Dessie Bennett and Mary Sue Daniel.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 10, 2010, from the Chapel of the Owen Funeral Home with Rev. David Abernathy and Rev. Mark Rackley officiating. Interment will follow in the Pine Log United Methodist Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be John Neal, Jimmy Young, Frank Neal Jr., Larry Tidwell, Rhyne Abernathy and Jeff Cole. Honorary pallbearers will be Charles Lockridge, Jack Nally, James Surratt, Luther Jones, J.B. Ezell, Ted Gilbert, Bill Neely, Randy Harris, Richard McMillan, Ricky Ferguson, Charles Tucker, Bobby Mullinax, Harris Bagwell and Alvin Richards.

For those desiring contributions may be made to the Pine Log Methodist cemetery fund or to the Bartow Cumberland Presbyterian Church.

The family received friends at the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. Wednesday.
