John Joseph McDevitt, 65, of Plymouth Drive, Cartersville, Ga., passed away Thursday morning, Oct. 14, 2010, at Cartersville Medical Center.

Mr. McDevitt was born Sept. 12, 1945, in Philadelphia, Pa., son of the late John Joseph McDevitt Jr. and Margaret Mary Reagan McDevitt.

He retired in 2003 from First Brands where he worked for many years and at the time of his death was employed by Chattahoochee Technical College as a commercial truck driver teacher. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Geraldine Catherine Babesh McDevitt in 1988; a brother, Joseph McDevitt; a sister-in-law, Catherine Benvenito, and two brothers-in-law, Joseph Babesh and James Babesh.

Survivors include his daughters, Theresa and Anthony Marshall, Jacqueline McDevitt and Michelle and Brian West; grandchildren, Bryan Marshall, Christopher Marshall, LeAnn Marshall and Catherine West; sister, Jean Margaret McDevitt; brothers, William and Rose McDevitt, Patrick McDevitt; sisters-in-law, Andrea McCabe and Marie Sarle; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be conducted Monday, Oct. 18, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church with Father Dan Stack and Father Joseph Aquino officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends Sunday from 5 to 9 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home.

Pallbearers include Anthony Marshall, Bryan Marshall, Christopher Marshall, William McDevitt, Patrick McDevitt and Charles Pruitt.
