Moseley bound over to superior court Brandon Shea Etheridge, 18, of 49 Benefield Circle, Cartersville; Dylan Cade Williams, 18, of 17 Crimson Hill Drive, Rydal; and Samuel Lawrence Ayers, 18, of 411 Wilderness Camp Road, White.
The three were among seven people arrested Tuesday night by the Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force on various drug charges.
Etheridge is a rising senior and three-year starting quarterback at Cass. Williams, a star pitcher and recent Cass graduate, is to attend Louisiana State University in the fall on a baseball scholarship. Ayers, also a recent Cass graduate, was a star infielder for the Colonels.
Bartow County School Superintendent John Harper said a decision on the playing status of Etheridge will come only after the system weighs the facts in the case.
“The case probably has to work its way through the system before a final decision is made,” Harper said.
He said the system will be guided by the policies spelled out in its student handbook. “Our goal is treat everyone fairly and we’ll do that.”
LSU baseball coach Paul Mainieri was quoted in The Advocate, based in Baton Rouge, La., that he was told by a family member that signee Williams “happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.”
Mainieri said he is hopeful it will ultimately be proven his pitcher didn’t do anything wrong, adding he doesn’t know anything else about the case, according to The Advocate.
“I have to let the process play out,” he was quoted in The Advocate.
DTF Commander Capt. Mark Mayton said agents arrested Christopher Lee Willingham in a traffic stop Tuesday on Interstate 75 for possession of marijuana and an improper tag display.
During the execution of a subsequent search warrant at 49 Benefield Circle, agents located roughly 7 ounces of the illegal narcotic “molly,” a new drug to Bartow County. A large amount of high-grade marijuana and a firearm also were seized. Street value of the seizure was put at $16,000.
Six people, including the three athletes, were arrested at that location. Also arrested were Dustin Bradley Bush, 18, of Atlanta; Timothy Glen Etheridge, 54, and Christi Lynn Etheridge, 49, both of 49 Benefield Circle, reports stated.
