A check for $120,000 was presented to Kennesaw Transportation employees at the company's annual Christmas luncheon held Thursday.

Safety and longevity were rewarded Thursday with plaques, certificates and bonuses. Twelve employees qualified this year for the Rydal company's $10,000, five-year loyalty bonus offered to drivers every time they celebrate five years with the company. Two of those recipients received their second $10,000 check since the program began in 1999.

"In this day and age it's difficult for some people to save $10,000. To see that earned is a really big thing to me," said Pat Patrick, Kennesaw Transportation owner. "It touches my heart to see everybody come together, greeting one another -- not only as employees but as friends. This family time that we get once a year is difficult with drivers being out on the road."

Drivers Jim Brown and Steve Williams were recognized Thursday for 30 years of service and were among the original five drivers on the Kennesaw fleet. Today, the fleet has grown to 117 team drivers and 75 solo drivers.

"I started with him in June of 1980. We started this company in 1981 and we've been going strong ever since. We started out with five used trucks and five used trailers and we've been smoking ever since and expanding every year," Brown said. "When you find a company like this, you don't want to leave. ... It's a good Christian company, it's a great place to work. You get the miles you want and benefits. There may be other places that have better benefits, more money -- but it's just not like this company. You can walk right into [Patrick's] office and talk to him."
