The garbage truck had been purchased last year for $120,000, and SPLOST dollars were used to fund the purchase. The city council began asking for bids last month once they decided to move garbage service to a private contractor.
After passing a motion to deposit the funds into the general reserve, the council moved to executive session to discuss personnel issues. While no action was taken, Mayor Ron Casey said the issues discussed involved employee conduct and the employee handbook.
Kingston's employee handbook has not been updated for more than 10 years and the council has made it a priority to pass an update. Casey said it would be brought in line to address Facebook and other social media.
The meeting's original agenda had originally called for votes or discussion on issues including the employee handbook revision and removing a parking space from the downtown area. However, these issues were declared unsuitable for a called meeting and were moved to the council's next regular meeting.
The Kingston City Council's next meeting is scheduled for Aug. 6 at 7 p.m. at city hall.
