Nearly 10 matches into their volleyball season, the Cartersville Lady Purple Hurricanes seem to be rounding into shape.

Cartersville defeated both of its opponents, Calhoun and Cass, at the Lady Yellow Jackets' home court on Tuesday.

The Lady Canes (3-6) beat rival Cass, 25-12, 25-23 and disposed of host Calhoun, 25-23, 25-18.

"The major difference (is) we just played consistent, all the way around -- very good passing game, middle hitters ... reduced unforced errors," Cartersville coach Scott Busby said of the Lady Canes' improvement Tuesday. "We're a young team and every single match, we've gotten better, and it should continue throughout the year. Made a couple of lineup changes defensively, and I think the girls are starting to gel."

Janezka Cruz led Cartersville with 11 kills (seven against Calhoun); she also had two assists. Katie O'Connor added eight kills and five assists; Jessica Boss five kills and one assist; Kiley Perkins five kills and two blocks; Samantha Conley a team-high 29 assists and five aces; and Megan Patton four digs.

On Thursday, the Lady Canes are back in action at Woodland High, where they will serve as hosts to East Paulding and Wheeler.
