Lady Canes cruise, 57-35, in Rome holiday tourney

Cartersville outscored Trion in every quarter on its way to an easy 57-35 victory in the Rome News-Tribune Holiday Festival on Tuesday.

The Lady Purple Hurricanes started slowly, earning a one-point lead in the first quarter, 8-7, but stepped up their offensive production in the second frame, 16-9, to stretch the lead to 24-16 at the break.

In the third quarter, Cartersville outscored their foe 17-10 to go up 41-26. In the final period the Lady Canes scored 17 points while allowing 10.

Adrienne Green led Cartersville scorers with 15 points while Kea Garnigan and Morgan Jones dropped in 10 each. Stefanie Will scored 2; Katie O’Connor, 4; Asia Murray, 4; Kaelyn Irby, 3; Terika Mostella, 4; Maya Jones, 2; and Jazmine Baldwin, 3.

The win improved Cartersville’s overall record to 7-2. It is 0-0 in Region 7B-AAA. Trion dropped to 4-8 overall.

The Lady Canes next play Tuesday when they meet Etowah, a Region 5-AAAAA school, in the Pickens Tournament, played at Pickens High School. Tipoff is at 3 p.m. They play a second tournament game on Dec. 29 against Creekview, a member of Region 7-AAAA. Tipoff for that contest is at 6 p.m.
