Having already clinched their second consecutive double-digit win season under coach Rick Holsomback, the Cartersville Lady Purple Hurricanes eclipsed last year’s total Wednesday with a 2-0 victory at Lakeview-Fort Oglethorpe.

With runs at a premium, Cartersville delivered its clutch hit in the top of the fifth inning off the bat of Annie Holsomback, whose double to left-center field provided the difference in the game.

Holosomback, who had another double reach the wall before her two-run, finished the game 2 for 3 with two RBIs. Maddie Geiger also had two hits for the Lady Canes, including a double, and drew a walk as well. Hunter Irvin, Kennedy Bailey and Annalyn Yantis each singled for the visitors, with Yantis’ clutch hit on a 1-2 count helping set the stage for Holsomback.

“We made good adjustments at the plate and just kep making good contact all nightlong,” coach Rick Holsomback said.

Cartersville’s third-year head coach noted the team could have scored more but squandered some opportunities with base running mistakes. However, the Lady Canes picked up their 11th win in 20 games and improved to 6-4 in Region 5-AAA.
