Head coach Jamie Horton said despite the wins, he believes his team can play better than it did at the Paulding County tournament.
"We played OK, but we need to clean up our passing so we can do more with it in the game," he said.
The coach said the Lady Colonels got an early lead against Alexander, going up 20-5, but found their opponents making some progress on the scoreboard, outscoring Cass 11-5 though still falling 25-16 at match's end.
"We kind of relaxed a little and we didn't finish as strongly as we could have, but we still won," he said.
Cass won the second match, 25-15. "We were able to work in a lot of our other players into the second game and it's a good thing when you can do that," he said.
Cass defeated Paulding County 25-13 and 25-12, but the score wasn't indicative of the home team's play, Horton said.
"They're an improving program," he said. "They played hard and did a good job against us."
He said Silken Solomon and Maggie Buffington led the Lady Colonels offensively.
"Silken made a number of kills for us, and Maggie did a good job of setting us up for those kills."
Cass returns to action Tuesday, when it visits Rome High to play Woodland and Rome, both subregion foes.
Northwest 6, Cass 2
Cass got behind early, then came back to make a battle of it before eventually losing to Northwest Whitfield, 6-2, Thursday.
Coach Greg Hight said the Lady Colonels have to get better and closing the deal when they get on base.
"We put runners in scoring position, but we couldn't get them across," he said.
The Lady Bruins, currently the team with the sub-region's best record, got their runners across early, with three changing the scoreboard in the top of the first and a fourth in the second inning.
Cass stemmed the flow around the bases in the next two innings and sent two runners across to pull to 4-2 in the bottom of the third.
Lauren Womack walked in the inning for the Lady Colonels, advanced on a bunt by Ashlynn Russell, then scored when Allison Story hit an RBI triple. Story closed out scoring for Cass on a wild pitch.
Northwest tacked on two more runs in the fifth inning, to close out scoring.
Courtney Bailey pitched a complete game, allowing seven hits and two bases on balls while striking out four Lady Bruins on the evening.
Cass dropped to 2-9 overall, 1-4 in Region 7A-AAAA. Thursday it entertains Rome.
Northwest improved to 8-3, 5-0 in the subregion.
