The Adairsville girls soccer team is heading to the Class AAA state playoffs for the first time since 2008 after defeating host Gordon Central, 1-0, Friday.

The Lady Tigers winning goal was scored by Cassidy Greene, off an assist by Hayley Pittman, at the 61st minute of play.

“She [Greene] buried it from about 25 yards out,” said Lance Hall, the Lady Tigers’ assistant soccer coach. “What a goal. What a game. It was an 80-minute battle.”

Greene had scored a hat trick in Adairsville’s 4-0 win over Trion Wednesday.

Heading into Friday night’s final region game for the Lady Tigers (10-7, 7-7), one game separated fourth-place Adairsville and fifth-place Gordon Central.

Because the Lady Warriors owned the tiebreaker, Gordon Central would have headed to state had it won.

Instead, it is Adairsville who will playing a yet-to-be named opponent from Region 8-AAA in the first round of the state playoffs.

The Lady Tigers conclude their regular season next week against non-region foe Pepperell.
