Adairsville let each Armuchee, the host, and the Calhoun Lady Yellow Jackets take the first set in volleyball matches Thursday before defeating both teams for a tri-match sweep.

The Lady Tigers beat the Lady Indians, 17-25, 25-16, 25-20, and also defeated Calhoun, 13-25, 25-16, 25-20.

“Both games we let ’em win the first one — just to make it interesting,” Adairsville assistant coach David Adams laughed. “It was a very intense night.”

The Lady Tigers, however, prevailed behind another big night from Stephanie Kurht, as well as a stellar serving night. Kurht finished with 16 kills out of 17 attacks, a 94 percentage rate, and five blocks.

“Basically anytime we had the ball, she was on the attack. You get arrested for killing like that,” Adams quipped.

Also steadying Adairsville were Zina Chatman, Amber Litterell, Nisa Ayers and Sydney Sumners, who combined for more than 20 aces. Chatman had eight, Litterell five, and Ayers and Sumners four apiece. Litterell added seven digs, and Sumners had 12 digs.
