The Woodland softball team learned Monday that it won its second tournament of the season over the weekend after receiving an e-mail from the tournament director of the 21st annual Cherokee Invitational.

Cherokee Invitational tournament director Jay Worley congratulated both Gordon Lee and Woodland as co-champions of the tournament.

The Lady Trojans and Lady Wildcats were the only teams to accumulate five wins without any losses and were scheduled to meet in the gold bracket title game before rain canceled the potential matchup.

"It was unfortunate that the rain came and washed the tournament out so late in the day," Worley said in his e-mail to both programs. "There is no tie-breaker in place to rule upon this situation and it would be unfair to both teams to use one after the fact."

Woodland -- which also won the Model Lady Devils Classic in August -- and Gordon Lee will receive championship trophies and plaques for their efforts.

The Lady Trojans defeated White County (4-1), Cherokee (3-0), Gilmer (11-0), Dade County (7-2) and Northgate (4-2) at the Cherokee Invitational, while the Lady Wildcats won their games with Woodstock (4-3), Cass (4-2), Northgate (3-1), Sequoyah (7-4) and Northwest Whitfield (7-6).
