Natalie Springfield, vice president of Smartegies, LLC, said representatives of LakePoint Sports Development Group will be accepting letters of interest from applicants and vendors. Those may be e-mailed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
"Sometime after we break ground, we will be hosting a job-vendor fair for the local community. Details of that are still being planned, but should be available sometime in the spring," she added.
When LakePoint Sports partners announced the roughly $1 billion complex Dec. 17, the estimated number of jobs created through the first phase of the project was 2,000. The core of the venture has an expected opening of June 2012. Once complete, the complex could be responsible for 4,000 jobs.
That is welcome news for a county struggling with an unadjusted unemployment rate of 11.7 percent for November. Last week, the Georgia Department of Labor said preliminary numbers for November jumped eight-tenths of a percentage point from October's rate of 10.8 percent.
Melinda Lemmon, executive director of the Cartersville-Bartow County Department of Economic Development, said she was happy to see the organization reaching out to the community.
From the standpoint of an organization that would field calls from businesses and interested applicants, Lemmon said she's grateful the company has added links to collect that information.
"It's helpful for the [Cartersville-Bartow County Convention & Visitors Bureau], the courthouse ... It shows how proactive this group is; it's certainly value added for me," she said, adding she hopes LakePoint Sports finds the response encouraging.
Employment aside, the projected economic impact of LakePoint is hard to fathom.
Lemmon said the complex will affect Bartow County outside of job creation through tourism, tax revenue and property tax collections.
Calling LakePoint an "all-hands-on-deck project," Lemmon said the project will be big even taken in "bite-size pieces."
"This has such positive potential regardless of how you look at it," she said.
