Mrs. Starnes was born April 29, 1917 in Cassville, daughter of the late William Sylvester Matthews and Mary Edna Emerson Starnes. She was retired from the Georgia State University Library System and was a member of Cassville United Methodist Church where she was a fourth generation member. She was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Wofford Starnes; brothers and sisters, Ernest Matthews, Bill Matthews, Dick Matthews, Mildred Jolley and Corky Matthews.
Survivors include a son, Bill Starnes of Charlotte, NC; a daughter, Marlene Poole of Acworth; grandchildren, Matt Starnes and wife Laura of Charlotte, N.C., Erin Seibert and husband Todd of Denver, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Laura Starnes of Charlotte, N.C.; special niece, Robyn Lipscomb and husband Rev. Steve Lipscomb of Topeka, Kan.; special cousin, Annie Mae Fortenberry and husband Billy of Cassville; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
The family wants to thank the caregivers Faye Leonard, Sarah Davis and the entire staff of Felton Manor. Also want to thank the staff of Amedysis Hospice and Dr. Jeffery Esslinger .
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 17 at 2 p.m. at Cassville United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Eastridge and Rev. Barbara Davidson officiating. Interment was in Sunset Memory Gardens.
The family received friends Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Owen Funeral Home.
