MAHJONG -- Learn how to play this game at the Cartersville Public Library Tuesdays, June 15 and 22, from 4 to 6 p.m.

BOOK CHAT -- Cormac McCarthy's "The Road" will be discussed at the Cartersville Public Library Tuesday, June 15, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

'CHI-FIT' -- Sue Hopkins from Etowah Valley Yoga will lead attendees through gentle motions during weekly sessions at the Cartersville Public Library Tuesdays through July 22, from 10 to 10:40 a.m.

CARTERSVILLE FARMERS MARKET -- The Downtown Farmers Market operates Wednesdays and Saturdays during the summer. Held at Founders Oak Park along Public Square in Cartersville, the annual market opens at sunup and closes about noon or when the farmers sell all of their produce.

THRILLER BOOK CHAT -- Discuss your favorite thriller and discover other great books to read at this event at the Adairsville Public Library Thursday, June 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

GEORGIA DOWNLOAD DESTINATION -- Learn how to navigate this site and download audio books at the Cartersville Public Library Thursday, June 17, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

EUHARLEE MARKET -- A farmers' and artisans' market is being held every Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. in the parking lot of Johnny Mitchell's Smokehouse on 100 Covered Bridge Road in Euharlee and occur every Friday through December. 'DIXIE SWIM CLUB' -- The Pumphouse Players will present "Dixie Swim Club" at The Legion Theatre -- 114 W. ROYAL SCOTTISH COUNTRY DANCE SOCIETY -- Classes take place at Heritage Baptist Church in Cartersville on the first and third Fridays of the month at 7:30 p.m. Learn a style danced both in the ballrooms and barns of Scotland. No experience required. No partner required. Wear flat, soft shoes and comfortable clothes. First class is free, after that classes are $3 per person per class. HEALING STORIES -- Milbre Burch will present Healing Stories -- two storytelling performances and a teen storytelling workshop -- Saturday, June 19, from 1 to 4:30 p.m. at the Cartersville Civic Center. 'ASTROLOGY IN ACTION' -- Professional astrologer Brooke Moore will offer a short introduction to real astrology followed by hands-on learning exercises where those in attendance will create astrology charts and maps. This session will be held at the Cartersville Public Library Saturday, June 19, from 2 to 4 p.m. Registration required.

TEA PARTY -- The Tea Party movement comes to Cartersville Saturday, June 19, from 6 to 9 p.m., at the Dellinger Park group shelter area, 100 Grove Park Road. FAMILY FESTIVAL -- The Pettit Environmental Preserve will hold a Family Festival on Saturday, June 19, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The event will include self-guided hikes or hiking with the Preserve's educator, activities from Tellus Science Museum, a professional storyteller and much more. Admission and all activities are free. Ed Bostick, retired Kennesaw State University biology professor, will lead "Professor Ed's Edible Wildflowers" an informative presentation with a "wildflower snack" at the end of his 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. sessions. BARTOW DEMOCRATS -- The Next Bartow County Democratic Party meeting will be held Monday, June 21, starting at 7 p.m. at The IHop Restaurant, 640 E. Main St. in Cartersville. GOLF TOURNAMENT -- A golf tournament benefiting the Christian League for Battered Women, a domestic violence center in Bartow County, will be held Tuesday, June 22, at the Fields Ferry Golf Club in Calhoun. JUNIOR RANGER CAMP -- Etowah Indian Mounds State Historic Site -- 813 Indian Mounds Road in Cartersville -- will hold a Junior Ranger Camp Wednesday, June 23, to Friday, June 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Eight to 12-year-olds can earn a Junior Ranger Badge as they participate in activities such as storytelling, dig boxes, games, and clay and copper crafts. RELAY FOR LIFE -- Relay committee meetings, all on Tuesdays at 6 p.m., all at the City Loft, are scheduled: July 6, July 27, and Aug. 10. Relay team meetings are scheduled as follows: Thursdays, July 8 and July 29 at 7:30 a.m. at H&R Block or at 6 p.m. at the Civic Center; Thursday, Aug. 12, at 6 p.m. at Dellinger Park; and Tuesday, Sept. 7, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Unity National Bank.

MOVIE AT LIBRARY -- The R-rated "The Book of Eli" will be screened for free at the Cartersville Public Library Tuesday, July 6, from 6 to 8 p.m.

'TRAVEL DESTINATION: HAWAII' -- "READiscover" our 50th state at the Emmie Nelson Public Library in Euharlee Tuesday, July 6, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

BROWN BAG LUNCH AND MYSTERY BOOK CHAT -- International mystery authors is the theme of the Thursday, July 8 session, which will run from noon to 1 p.m. at the Cartersville Public Library.

FRIDAY BINGO -- Play bingo at the Emmie Nelson Public Library in Euharlee Friday, July 9, from 2 to 3 p.m. Have fun, meet new people and win prizes at this library event.

FAMILY GAME NIGHT -- Bring your family to play board games and "READiscover" summer family fun at the Emmie Nelson Public Library in Euharlee Tuesday, July 13, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

EARLY SUMMER VEGETABLE AND PLANT SWAP -- Bring some small plants and/or vegetables to swap with others at the Adairsville Public Library Thursday, July 15, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m.

'THE FOOD OF LOWCOUNTRY' -- Author Joe Dabney reveals the secrets of one of the most mysterious, romantic regions of the South in "The Food, Folklore and Art of Lowcountry Cooking" at the Cartersville Public Library Thursday, July 15, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

FIREFLY NIGHTS -- In the summer of 2009, Barnsley Gardens Resort (www.barnsleyresort.com) created a fun new summer event named Firefly Nights. It will continue Saturday, July 17, this year. This monthly event includes dancing under the stars, live romantic music, and cocktails in the Ruins. The event is free of charge. There will be a cash bar for beverages.

RECIPE SWAP - POT LUCK -- Bring your favorite recipe along with samples to share at the Emmie Nelson Public Library in Euharlee Tuesday, July 20, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

BOOK CHAT -- Richard Russo's "The Old Cape Magic" will be discussed at the Cartersville Public Library Tuesday, July 20, from 7 to 8:30 p.m.

'FOUNDATIONS OF INVESTING' -- Stocks, bonds, mutual funds and more will be discussed by Chuck Simpson of Edward Jones Investments at the Cartersville Public Library Thursday, July 22, from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

MURDER MYSTERY -- Join in the fun and try to figure out "whodunit" in the mystery "Next of Kin" at the Cartersville Public Library Friday, July 23, from 7 to 9 p.m. Roles available to participate or attendees can just watch and try to guess the murderer. Dinner will be potluck.

ANIMECON -- The Cartersville Public Library will hold its third-annual "AnimeCon" Saturday, July 24, from 1 to 4 p.m. The event for teens and adults will feature a cosplay fashion show, anime screenings, an art contest and a video game tournament.

'TAILGATING WITH THE ETOWAH SCHOLARSHIP FOUNDATION' -- This fundraising event will be held Thursday, Aug. 5, at 6 p.m. at Taylor's Lake and will feature barbecue and drinks. Special guests will be Wes Durham, sportscaster for Georgia Tech and the Atlanta Falcons; Georgia Bulldogs sportscaster Loran Smith and "Mr. College Football" Tony Barnhart. The event also will feature a live and silent auction of signed footballs, baseballs and jerseys from sports notables such as Nick Saban, Mark Richt, Paul Johnson and Hank Aaron. RELAY FOR LIFE -- Bartow County's Relay for Life event will be Friday, Sept. 10, and Saturday, Sept. 11, at Dellinger Park in Cartersville. Along with entertainment throughout the night, Friday's festivities will include be a survivor's reception from 5 to 7 p.m.; opening ceremony and survivor's lap and caregivers' lap at 7 p.m.; and a luminary service at 9:30 p.m. The event will wrap up Saturday at 9 a.m. with the closing ceremonies.
