Man arrested in hit and run

A Cartersville police officer was dispatched to Middlebrook Apartments on Wednesday night in reference to a hit and run report.

Upon arrival, he met with a driver for Bartow Cab who stated that he was struck on Grassdale Road by another vehicle. He stated the driver, later identified as Carlos Guzman, left the scene in a black Saturn. The complainant followed him as he drove to the complex and parked his car.

Guzman was later arrested by a Bartow County Sheriff's deputy and charged with hit and run.

Lady arrested after spitting on security guard

A patient at Cartersville Medical Center was arrested Wednesday night after a Bartow County deputy responded to a call in reference to an irate female. Upon arrival, the deputy met with a security guard who stated the patient, Sybil Weems, had been very disruptive and when she was asked to calm down she spit on him.

He said he and several other employees tried to calm Weems down but she became louder and more disturbing. After she was discharged, she was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct.

Local business burglarized

A Cartersville officer responded to Popcorn Haven, 608 E. Main St., in reference to a burglary report Wednesday morning. Upon arrival, the officer met with the complainant who stated that someone broke in to the office, taking about $300 in cash from the register. He said a laptop and iPod on the desk were not taken.

Christmas gifts stolen

A woman said items stolen from her car on Wednesday were her children's Christmas gifts.

A Cartersville officer responded to 30 E. Porter St., Apt. 1, in reference to a car break-in. The complainant told the officer the items in her car included an Xbox 360, clothes, books and games, as well as other items totaling $1,175. The complainant said there were no signs of forced entry to her truck where the gifts were.
