A man was assaulted early Thursday morning while going to purchase drugs.

A Bartow County Sheriff’s Office deputy responded to the call in the area of Old Cass White Road and Peeples Valley Road. The victim said he was en route to Canton to “purchase some drugs,” according to the incident report.

The victim said he was riding in a gray Ford F150 with a white male and a black male from Dalton. At one point the white male and black male pulled over to use the restroom and when the victim got out he said something allegedly struck him in the back of the head.

Bartow County emergency medical services at the scene said it looked as though the victim had been cut with a sharp object. The deputy noted two lacerations on the back of the victim’s head along with several large knots.

The victim reportedly said the suspects lived in Madisonville and they were going back home. The suspects left with the victim’s Samsung Galaxy 3 cell phone and his Oakley glasses.

The victim did not wish to pursue charges and he also refused treatment.

Inmate who committed suicide identified

The inmate at the Bartow County Jail who committed suicide Wednesday has been identified.

Sheriff Clark Millsap said Thursday afternoon that Jack Clark Jr., 60, hung himself with his bed sheet about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

In a release Wednesday, BCSO said Clark, who was listed as homeless, was being held in the medical center for mental health reasons at the time of his death.

According to the Georgia Department of Corrections website, Clark was sentenced to 30 years for numerous charges — including aggravated child molestation, incest and enticing a child — from 1995. He served less than 10 years — from September 1997 to January 2007.

In October 2009, Clark was incarcerated again at Augusta State Medical Prison. He was released on Dec. 11, 2010.
