A 35-year-old male drowned at Lake Allatoona about 11 a.m. Friday.

The victim, who was swimming in the area of McKinney Campground, has been identified as Nathan Ray Swanson of Acworth, according to Melissa Cummings, public affairs coordinator for the Department of Natural Resources.

Bartow County Emergency Management Agency Director Johnny Payne said the dive team recovered Swanson’s body from the water at 2:10 p.m.

Payne said the man was swimming about 30 feet off shore with an uncle when he went under. It was not clear if the man could swim.

Payne said Friday afternoon that details were limited about the incident.

Emergency crews dragged the lake prior to the dive team's arrival.
