Man wanted for questioning in rape case arrested

Cartersville police Sunday arrested a man wanted in connection with a rape case.

Emerson police detectives last week said Jerson Berillo-Diaz, 27, was wanted for questioning in an assault and burglary incident that occurred Aug. 29 at Evergreen Mobile Home Park.

About 1:30 a.m. Sunday, Cartersville police were called to a MLK Jr. Drive residence after Diaz was reported as being there. He fled when officers arrived but was later apprehended.

He was arrested and charged with rape, burglary, aggravated sodomy, false imprisonment, interference with a 911 call, two counts of first-degree cruelty to children and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children.

Man arrested for public indecency

Cartersville police responded to the Holiday Inn, 2336 Highway 411, early Saturday morning after a man allegedly exposed himself to hotel employees.

According to the report, two employees encountered David Butler, 57, of 3321 County House Road, Tompkinsville, Ky., at the Marathon gas station about 5 a.m. He followed the two women back to the Holiday Inn, where he allegedly sat in the lobby in such a manner as to expose his genitals.

When the hotel's cafe opened, Butler allegedly walked in and exposed himself again, and at one point was apparently touching his private area. One woman said Butler winked at her while the incident was occurring. A male customer said he was eating and observed Butler exposing and touching himself.

An employee was able to provide photo evidence from her cell phone.

Butler was arrested and charged with five counts of public indecency. He had outstanding warrants through Kentucky for indecent exposure and stalking.

Cartersville man pulled from burning vehicle

According to media reports, a Cartersville man was pulled from a burning car early Sunday morning.

Dan Gloth, 56, was trapped in is burning 1996 Buick Regal about 5:15 a.m. on Interstate 75 southbound near Resaca when Gordon County police arrived.

According to reports, a witness had stopped to help. The police and witness were able to force open the passenger's side door and pull Gloth out.

The victim was flown to Erlanger in Chattanooga. The accident remains under investigation.
