Santini said his grandparents would travel to Marietta from Florida and New York. Himself along with his two brothers and a few cousins would bake cookies and play cards.
"Christmas mostly centered around my grandparents and excitement from having them around," Santini said.
Nowadays he celebrate with both his family and his wife's family, beginning with a Christmas Eve celebration at his in-laws around noon. Santini said his mother-in-law likes to play the piano.
"She plays songs and forces us to sing to them," Santini said.
He said the day involves, music, lots of fun, a good meal and opening a few presents before they head to Marietta to be with his family.
There he says they feast on a "pretty big Italian dinner" and attend midnight Mass. Santini said Christmas Day is usually reserved for just his wife and daughter.
"The three of usually do a movie and go out to dinner," he said.
He said after the holidays it's back to work and improving the city of Cartersville. First in the agenda is the Visioning Session on Jan. 28 and 29.
Santini said he will get together with department heads and the city council to look at the past year, and the five-year plan and 30-year plan.
"I want to make sure we are on the right track on things we want to accomplish," he said.
Santini said he is proud that the city hasn't had to increase taxes or layoff employees.
"In 2011 we plan to run the city as efficiently and effectively as we can," Santini said.
