Sexauer, who finished second at the small-school race, was one of approximately 1,000 runners competing in six divisions in Saturday's event, held at Bleckley County Elementary School.
Boys and girls competed in races for large schools -- middle schools that feed into Class AAA-AAAAA high schools -- and small schools -- middle schools that feed into Class A-AA high schools. There was also a junior varsity race for all schools.
Sexauer's second-place finish capped off a local season in which she was unbeaten. She won the region championship last Tuesday.
In the large-school races, the Woodland Middle School Wildcats, the defending state combined-team champion, finished second in the boys varsity competition and third in the girls division. Cartersville's Middle School teams finished seventh and fifth, respectively.
Woodward Academy of Atlanta won the boys race with a score of 22 points. Marist and Woodward Academy finished ahead of Woodland in the girls meet.
Woodland won the boys JV race with a score of 33 points, taking three of the top four spots led by individual champion John Scifers. The Woodland girls placed second in the JV race behind Holy Innocents Middle School. The girls JV race was dominated by the two top teams, which claimed finishing positions two through 10. Cartersville placed fifth with a score of 150 points.
The combined team trophy went to Woodward Academy, which finished one place ahead of Woodland.
