A Whitfield County murder suspect attempted to flee federal and local authorities Tuesday after being spotted inside a Bartow County residence, according to a Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force press release. The suspect, who has since been returned to Whitfield County and booked on the charge, was quickly taken into custody.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation received information that murder suspect Skyy Mims had been staying at a residence on Southmont Drive. That location was provided to the U.S. Marshall Service’s Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force, which began surveillance on the residence along with the Bartow-Cartersville Drug Task Force.
The two task forces detected movement inside the residence at approximately 5:33 p.m., which prompted officers to make an entry and thereby locate the suspect.
A team of Whitfield County Sheriff’s Office investigators were in Bartow County and executed a search at the residence for evidence. The Kia Soul Mims had been traveling in was recovered and taken to Whitfield County to be processed. The vehicle had been reported stolen in Michigan.
An investigation is ongoing.
