The Northwest Georgia Bridal Expo will be the second of its kind for Cartersville with event organizer Maria Murray bringing the inaugural event to the Clarence Brown Conference Center last year, which drew several hundred guests.
“Our first was last year, about the same time. It went very well and I hope it will be as good this year, possibly better,” Murray said. “All brides, grooms, mothers of the bride, actually anyone can benefit because there are a lot of things there available through vendors to people other than brides
“We’ve got some really good vendors. We’ve got some excellent caterers and some excellent cupcake people. It’s a fun show and very elegant, very pretty.”
In addition to food providers, the expo will highlight professionals from a variety of fields servicing the wedding industry, including music providers, photographers, dress shops, men’s wear and florists. Murray, owner of the Globe Trotters travel agency, began the regional trade show because of what she saw as a void in the north Georgia area for bridal shows and expos.
Thanks to her connections in the travel industry, Murray has secured a number of travel items to be given away at Sunday’s expo in addition to drawings held by vendors.
“We have some fabulous prizes. All the vendors give a prize, but in addition to that, because Globe Trotters, the sponsor of the show, is a travel agent, we’re able to get some wonderful honeymoon giveaways,” Murray said. “Vacation Express has provided two round-trip air tickets on their charter from Atlanta to Cancun. The Royal Hideaway Resort in Cancun is providing a honeymoon stay and also the Jewel Runaway Bay Resort in Ocho Rios [Jamaica] is providing a stay.”
Among local vendors taking part in the Northwest Georgia Bridal Expo is Melissa & Co. Salon. Owner Melissa Porter is orchestrating a fashion show to highlight clothing, flowers, hair and makeup options for the big day.
“We’re just going to have a fun-filled fashion show,” Porter said. “We’ll have some little guys and girls and all kinds of spectacular gowns and dresses from CTO and Tie the Knot, men’s wear from Riley’s and then we have some beautiful arrangements from Cartersville Florists in addition to hair and makeup by Melissa & Co. So we’ve got a lot of different vendors taking part in the fashion show
“I think it’s a lot of fun. There’s not really another event like this in our area and it gets together people from all over north Georgia and beyond and everyone in this field can show off what they have to offer. It’s basically a one-stop-shop where you have a variety of people that work with weddings very often. So you have different options in one location. You don’t have to drive everywhere or look up everything, it’s right there in front of you.”
Melissa & Co. Salon has been in business since 1999, but moved just two years ago to a larger location at 1229 Joe Frank Harris Parkway in Cartersville. In the new space, Melissa & Co. now offers a bridal suite for the bridal party to prepare privately inside the salon or with stylists traveling to serve brides on site.
The Northwest Georgia Bridal Expo will take place Sunday, March 10, at the Clarence Brown Conference Center, 5450 State Route 20, from 1 to 5 p.m. Admission is $8, cash only, at the door or $6 online at www.nwgeorgiabridalexpo.com.
