Norman Samuel Johnson Sr., 79 years young, was born to the union of the late Nancy Mae and Samuel Johnson. He was the first born child to this union; second born, the late Peggy Ann and the baby, Melvin Johnson.
He was known to many by the nickname of “Shindig.” He joined Mount Zion Missionary Baptist Church at an early age and was very active in the male chorus, participated in other church activities and was distinctively awarded “Father of The Year” by Mount Zion.
Norman was educated in Cartersville, a Summer Hill Blue Devils football player, and graduated with the class of 1954. After high school, he joined the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged after 18 months. In 1957, Norman married his high school sweetheart, Beverly Ann McDow.

He later landed a job with Lockheed ARA Food Services as a coffee service attendant, later advancing to storeroom supervisor. He continued to climb the corporate ladder and was later promoted to Assistant Food Service Director until he retired after 35 years. After retirement with ARA, he went to work for Cosco of Cartersville as a shift supervisor. He retired again, but did not stop there. He purchased some houses and renovated them. Norman was very skilled with his hands and could build and repair anything.
