One person was airlifted to an undisclosed hospital after an accident closed Interstate 75 southbound at mile marker 302 for almost an hour midday Sunday.

Georgia State Patrol, along with traffic control help from the Bartow County Sheriff's Office, arrived on the scene after the call came in around 11:45 Sunday morning.

Bartow County Fire Department and EMS responded to the scene, transporting other victims by ambulance to receive medical attention.

An SUV was visible down an embankment with extensive damage, but no information on how the accident occurred or on the victims was available early Sunday afternoon. Initial reports said children were involved, but emergency personnel could not verify that when asked.
