According to a news release from the Cartersville Police Department, the shooting occurred about 1:35 p.m. at a 110 Maple Drive residence.
CPD Public Information Officer Lt. Mark Camp said the victim went to the residence to confront someone about that individual having taken the victim's daughter to purchase drugs.
At some point, the victim, Tony Collum, 44, and the father of the subject at the residence, Mark Harris, 53, got into a physical altercation. During the altercation, Collum was shot three times at close range with a .32 caliber handgun. It is unclear whether Collum was armed.
Harris, the alleged shooter, was on scene when police arrived and was taken into custody. He is charged with aggravated assault.
Two other subjects at the residence were detained for questioning.
Collum was airlifted to Kennestone Hospital and later transported to Grady Memorial Hospital. His condition was unknown at 8 p.m. Camp could not confirm reports that Collum had been treated and released Tuesday evening.
The investigation is ongoing.
