A strong storm system that moved through during the evening Monday left some residents in the dark.

The severe weather, which swept through ahead of a cold front, brought heavy wind and rain, along with hail and lightning.

Bartow County Fire Department personnel said transformers went out in the area of Adairsville and Cassville late Monday. Georgia Power reported 7,800 without power about 9:45 p.m., including 2,500 in Cartersville and 2,300 in Rome.

Cartersville Fire Department reported no outages, and there were no reports of downed trees or storm damage from BCFD or CFD at 10 p.m.

The Georgia State Patrol said no serious accidents were reported due to the weather.

There is a chance of thunderstorms before 8 a.m. today, which will be cooler with a high near 60.

Woman ejected from vehicle in Interstate crash

Traffic was affected for about an hour Sunday afternoon due to a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 75 north near exit 290, the Georgia State Patrol said.

Sgt. J. Davenport said at 3:55 p.m. a 1995 Mercury Villager was traveling northbound on I-75 when the right rear tire separated from the rim, causing the driver to lose control and hit a Department of Transportation cable.

The car, which was driven by a 27-year-old man, traveled into the southbound lane, overturning three times before landing upside down and ejecting a 28-year-old female passenger.

Davenport said the woman was not wearing a seat belt and was airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center. The driver was taken to Cartersville Medical Center with "visible injuries." A toddler in the car was not hurt.

No other vehicles were involved in the accident, Davenport said.

Former candidate for sheriff fired in Chattooga County

A former Bartow County Sheriff's Office employee and candidate for sheriff was fired late last month in Chattooga County.

According to reports, officer Gary Mull responded to the scene of a stabbing March 20. When Chattooga County Sheriff John Everett arrived, he reported smelling alcohol on Mull's breath and fired Mull.

Mull allegedly admitted to drinking earlier in the day.

Bartow County Sheriff Clark Millsap said Mull began his career at the sheriff's office as a patrol deputy and worked his way up to the rank of captain. Mull ran as a Democrat opposite Millsap in the 2000 election.

Millsap said he "chose not to rehire him" following the election.
