The Georgia High School Association adopted a rule last spring requiring each player on a team to undergo five consecutive practices with a helmet, T-shirt and shorts to better acclimate to the scorching summer heat — something that had been a problem in past years with players in Georgia passing out from the heat and even dying in some cases.
Cartersville, which began last Wednesday on the first day available to start official practices, will be one of the teams suiting up in pads for the first time today.
