A woman Thursday reported she and two companions saw a nude man walking along the Pine Log Creek Trail in Rydal. The woman said others have spotted the naked hiker, including another woman in May and a Recreation Department worker.

According to the Bartow County Sheriff's Office incident report, the three saw the man, described as 45 to 55 years old, 5-feet-8-inches tall with a medium build and light green eyes, and wearing a Bear Bryant style hat and tennis shoes, between 6 and 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The woman reported the suspect walked past the trio, spoke and kept walking. He is reported to have carried a yellow walking stick previously.

BCSO Sgt. Jonathan Rogers said authorities had arrested a younger man residents spotted nude in public in the Rydal area a couple years ago. The suspect in the recent report is older, and is not believed to be the same person.

Arrest made after foot chase

A witness notified Cartersville police to an intruder at Advantage Title Pawn, 743 Joe Frank Harris Parkway, Thursday night. The suspect, later identified as Rodney Steven Wilbanks, was seen going through vehicles in the businesses gated lot.

When approached by police, Wilbanks attempted to hide in a vehicle, then as the officer climbed the fence to enter the premises, the suspect fled on foot. The chase involved traversing three barbed wire fences before the officer in pursuit noticed lacerations to his hands and radioed a description of the suspect as Wilbanks scaled another fence.

Officers then aware of Wilbanks' direction of travel located the suspect and arrested him. Wilbanks, 54, of 23 Redcomb Drive, Unit A, Cartersville, was charged with criminal trespass, obstruction of an officer, parole violation and two counts of entering auto.

The Cartersville Fire Department responded to a fire Friday morning. Dispatched at 10:06 a.m., stations one and two responded to a fire at 4 Huntcliff Drive. The fire was caused by a dryer and was successfully contained to the dryer. The home suffered only smoke damage.

The Bartow County Fire Department reported working no fires in the 48-hour period prior to Saturday at 3 p.m.
