Board Attorney Boyd Pettit explained the recommendation of the board for Sullivan will now go to the Bartow County probate judge and the Secretary of State's Office. The judge will schedule the swearing in at a later date.
"What we would hope is that process will move as fast as possible. We're not in charge of that, but hopefully we'll get that new board member here as soon as possible, and get them sworn in and official so we'll be back to a full five-member board," Chairman Davis Nelson said during the called meeting.
Sullivan will hold the District 5 seat until the term ends this November.
No residents were present during the public hearing, during which board members viewed a proposed map to re-apportion board member districts. The board approved the map, which can be viewed at the central office, during the called meeting.
"There were several of the districts that were out of proportion due to growth in the community as well as some annexations that have taken place by the city of Cartersville, and that of course would affect your district in the way in which it must be redrawn in order to maintain compliance," Pettit said.
Pettit said all deviations in the revised map were less than 5 percent.
The work session included discussions of items on the Monday, Feb. 13, business session agenda, which can be viewed at www.bartow.k12.ga.us as well as a monthly report from Superintendent John Harper and several departments.
