The victim in a Wednesday shooting on Stokely Street is home and recovering.

Michele Talley was shot once in the left leg above her knee after an argument with her girlfriend’s brother, Dexter Weems Jr., police reported. She was taken by ambulance to Floyd Medical Center.

Thursday evening Talley was home resting, she said, and recovering. She will receive continuing medical care for her injury.

Talley said her sister was visiting when a dispute began about Weems, 23, living at the apartment. According to the Cartersville police report, Talley said Weems came down the stairs and shot her in the leg before fleeing.

Neighbors said the man, described as a black male, 6 feet and 160 pounds, left in a vehicle traveling at a high rate of speed.

Talley said of Weems, “I just hope that they find him.”

Cartersville Police Department Capt. Mark Camp said that, as of 7 p.m. Thursday, the search for Weems was ongoing. He said no new developments were made in the case.

Weems reportedly has family in the Cartersville area, but Camp did not detail whether the search had expanded to the homes of Weems’ relatives.
