The card's premier purpose, however, is admission to the Christmas Parade Party Thursday night at Stonewall Manor. Hosted by the Bartow Business Connection, Advocates Young Professionals and Volunteer Bartow, the parade party gives guests food and drinks, a place to view the parade and a warm escape throughout the evening's festivities.
"The Shop Bartow Card, first of all, gets you admission to the Christmas Parade Party at Stonewall Manor Thursday night beginning as early as 4:30 and staying until 9:30," said Parnick Jennings, BBC co-founder.
In its third year, the parade party typically brings in more than 100 guests and proceeds benefit local organizations. A portion of ticket sales goes to Advocates for Children while a majority of the funds raised will help feed those in need Dec. 17 at the Christmas Community Luncheon. The Christmas luncheon fed about 2,500 last year and expects to close in on 3,000 meals served this year.
"We came up with the Shop Bartow Card last year to raise additional funds for the Community Christmas Luncheon while at the same time not taking any money away from other nonprofits that are also hurting," said Tina Jennings, Community Christmas Luncheon organizer. "So, people that would buy the Shop Bartow Discount Card get benefits from it instead of just making a donation to us instead of another charity. We were trying to figure out how everybody wins and it provides something valuable for everybody."
In addition to Thursday's parade party, Shop Bartow cardholders can present their cards at participating businesses for discounts of up to 50 percent through the month of December. A list of more than 30 businesses honoring the Shop Bartow Discount Card and their specific offers can be found at www.bartowbusinessconnection.com.
Serving as the BBC's monthly meeting, the Dec. 1 parade party will give those in attendance a chance to network while providing them with an opportunity to invest in small business by shopping locally throughout the month.
"It's multi-pronged, number one they'll be able to network and grow their business. Secondly, they'll get to visit with other business owners in the community -- so it's just an opportunity for fellowship," Parnick Jennings said. "Then lastly, by using the card then they're keeping the money churning inside Bartow County instead of going outside the county."
Shop Bartow Discount Cards are $25 and can be purchased at the Cartersville Chamber of Commerce, Black Oak Asset Management, Slope's BBQ, United Community Bank in Adairsville and WBHF 1450. In addition to typical ticket sale proceeds, Black Oak Asset Management, 128 W. Cherokee Ave., has pledged to donate an extra $25 to the Community Christmas Luncheon for the first 20 Shop Bartow cards sold at their office.
