A father, along with his son, was arrested Monday afternoon after he was stabbed in the chest.

According to the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office incident report, Max Maybern said he was arguing with his son, Joseph Maybern, because Joseph was disrespecting a woman in the house. During the argument, Max allegedly hit his son in the face with an open hand. In response, Joseph allegedly lunged at his father and stabbed him in the chest.

When the responding deputy spoke with Joseph, he said he was in the kitchen and he wanted something to eat. However, his father said he could not eat, which Joseph said made him upset. Joseph admitted to arguing with his father and stabbing his father in the chest after he was struck in the face.

The deputy did see a stab wound on Max’s chest, so he called emergency medical services to examine him.

After Max was cleared by EMS he was transported to the Bartow County Jail and charged with battery under the Family Violence Act. Joseph was transported directly to the jail by a deputy and charged with aggravated assault (FVA).
