The Adairsville boys and girls basketball teams picked up their first region wins Friday night against Gordon Central. The Tigers are now 4-1 and won both games this week against Gordon Central and Rockmart. Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers went 2-1 this week.
The Cartersville boys and girls teams both defeated Cass convincingly in their only game of the week.
The Cass boys had a disappointing week, going 0-2 this week and are now 0-7. The Lady Colonels’ lost to Cartersville and Northwest Whitfield, but did have an impressive comeback victory over LaFayette.
The Excel boys played their best game of the season Tuesday as they defeated King’s Ridge 54-46. However, the Eagles lost to Pickens Saturday to even their record at 1-1 this week.
The Woodland boys team lost its first two games, but finished on a positive note with a victory over East Paulding. The Lady Wildcats lost to Hiram on Friday, but defeated a Paulding County school on Tuesday and Saturday to finish the week on a winning note.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Stephanie Kuhrt — Adairsville
Kuhrt was the leading scorer for the Lady Tigers against Gordon Central as she finished with 22. She then had 24 points Saturday against Rockmart.
BEST OF THE REST
Sammie Frazier — Adairsville
Last week’s Player of the Week had 17 points and 18 rebounds in the Tigers’ 71-55 victory over Gordon Central on Tuesday. He followed it up with 17 points and 12 rebounds Saturday against Rockmart.
Tyler Washington — Adairsville
Washington had an excellent all-around game against Gordon Central as the senior point guard scored 19 points, had six assists and five steals. He scored 19 points and six assists again Saturday.
Mallorie Collum — Adairsville
The senior forward had 12 points and 12 rebounds at halftime of Tueday’s region victory over Gordon Central. She finished with 20 points in the game. Collum nearly had a double-double again Saturday as she went for nine points and eight rebounds.
Corey Tobin — Cartersville
Tobin had 21 points despite limited minutes in the second half against Cass. He hit five 3s in the second quarter to help the Canes pull away form their rival.
Ryan Davis — Cartersville
Davis was a terror in transition against Cass. He had 17 points and eight assists for the game.
Kaelyn Irby — Cartersville
Irby continued her playmaking ways Saturday against Cass and had 17 points to lead the Canes.
Rejiyah Burley — Cass
The Lady Colonels staged a dramatic comeback to defeat LaFayette on Tuesday and Burley was a major reason why. She had 19 points in the second half to help rally her team and finished with 25 points in the game.
She also led Cass in scoring against Cartersville and had 13.
Darius Thrower — Excel
Thrower came up big in his team’s upset win over King’s Ridge Tuesday as the sophomore scored 31 of his team’s 54 points. He then added 21 points against Pickens on Saturday.
Carrod Watson — Woodland
The double-double machine had 20 points and 16 rebounds in a loss to South Paulding Tuesday. He followed up that performance on Friday with 14 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks against Hiram. He only had seven points Saturday, but has reached double-figure rebounding totals in each game this season.
Romello Hicks — Woodland
The senior guard scored 16 points in each of Woodland’s first two games this week.
Despite the loss to Hiram Friday night, Hicks kept his team in the game with two critical 2-pointers to keep the Wildcats close. Hicks followed up those two performances with a 13-point game Saturday.
Marissa Dubose — Woodland
The senior led the Lady Wildcats in scoring on Tuesday and Friday as she averaged 11 points per game.
