After 23 years in the automotive repair field, Ronny Thomason has opened up shop a little closer to home.

Thomason Automotive opened its doors on May 2 providing full service repairs, maintenance and tires. Thomason has owned and operated six stores across the region, finally deciding it was time to do the same in Bartow County.

Located at 131 E. Felton Road in Cartersville, the 10-bay shop is a relatively short drive from Thomason's Adairsville home. Still operating another shop in Kennesaw, Thomason looks forward to working in Bartow.

"I've just been wanting to come back. I consider this my home town and I think it's a good place just to do honest business," Thomason said. "I'm kind of a country guy myself, born and raised in the country and these are more my type people."

Thomason began his career cutting timber and eventually grew tired of fighting the elements and decided to pursue a career that had always interested him. After successfully opening and operating several stores, his next challenge will be running a shop near his home town.

"I wanted to be back in my home county and I feel if you can succeed in your own home town, you can succeed anywhere because there's more expected out of you from your friends," Thomason said.

Working with friends, family and church members, comes with additional scrutiny, said Thomason, adding that the industry, as a whole, has suffered a bad reputation for dishonesty. Working to change perception is a challenge Thomason faces daily. For this, he stressed the importance of a first impression and of an experienced staff.

His management team is comprised of loyal employees with little turnover, one has worked with him all 23 years while two others have been with them for more than 10 years.

"Everybody knows what each other is thinking. To be together that long, you've all got to be on the same page," Thomason said. "Help is a big problem in this business. ... So, we try to screen our employees as much as we can."

Preferring to do business with a personal touch, Thomason enjoys working in Cartersville where he has found a better atmosphere.

"Cartersville is just more laid-back," he said. "You get to know people more one-on-one, where in other areas it's just go, go, go."
