Tigers score 15 runs; Cartersville delivers shutout

Adairsville pounded out a victory and Cartersville cruised to a shutout in region play Wednesday in high school baseball.

Tigers 15, Gordon Central 2

Adairsville pounded Gordon Central into submission Wednesday with a 15-2 victory in which it tallied 18 hits.

Tiger pitching allowed two runs on just four hits to complete the relatively easy outing.

Adairsville scored five runs in the first inning, six in the second and one in the third and three in the fourth.

Gordon Central scored both of its runs in the third inning.

Dylan Cochran earned the victory for Adairsville, working three innings and allowing two runs, both earned, while striking out four. Hunter Smith pitched the final two innings, allowing no runs and striking out four.

Dylan Thomas was saddled with the loss, allowing 11 runs in 1 1/3 innings.

Among Adairsville’s leading hitters were Tristin Smith, 2-of-3 at the plate with a single and double, scored three runs; Dylan Cochran was 3-of-4 with a single and two doubles, two runs; Hunter Smith, 2-of-3, two runs; Zach Sherwood, 1-of-2, two runs; Dakota Hines, 1-of-1, two runs;

Adairsville improved to 8-12 with the victory and is 4-6 in Region 5B-AAA.

The Tigers next play Tuesday when they visit Sonoraville. Their game is scheduled to start at 5:30 p.m.

Canes 8, Coahulla Creek 0

Cartersville tallied runs in four of its seven innings and defeated Coahulla Creek, 8-0, in high school baseball play Wednesday.

The Purple Hurricanes scored three runs in the second, one in the third, two in the fourth and two in the sixth inning while Hunter Osborn pitched a complete-game shutout against the Colts.

The Cartersville offensive load was shouldered by JoJo Underwood, who was 2-of-4 with three RBIs; Austin Adams, two hits; Hayes Linn, a double and an RBI; Drew Lawson, 2-of-3 with two RBIs; Brandon Wells, an RBI single; and Clifton Dempsey and Connor Justus, who each had one hit and scored two runs.

Osborn worked seven innings, striking out 10, surrendering one hit and walking three.

Cartersville now is 15-6 overall and is 10-0 in Region 5B-AAA.

The Purple Hurricanes return to the diamond on Friday, when they take on West Forsyth at Turner Field in Atlanta. West Forsyth sports a 9-8 overall record and is 3-4 in Region 6-AAAAAA. The game is scheduled for a 7 p.m. start.

Coahulla Creek dropped to 4-12 with its loss. It is 1-5 in the region.
