Diesel stolen from truck at
rest stop as driver sleeps
A tractor trailer driver told a Bartow County deputy that someone stole 100 gallons of diesel fuel from his tank as he slept at Travel Center ff America on Friday morning.
The incident happened at the Cass-White location. The driver said he was resting in the cab of his truck with the vehicle still running. He said he became alarmed when the truck suddenly shut off, he went to check and noticed the gas gauge was on empty. He said there was more than a half a tank before he went to sleep. He told the deputy he found the gas cap unscrewed and noticed spilled diesel beside the tank.
The deputy states he didn't observe anyone in the area, but noticed residue of spilled diesel as if someone was transferring it into another tank.
