Two weeks ago, the Cass Lady Colonels brought their “A” game with them when they defeated the Model Blue Devils. But on Senior Night, the Lady Colonels left the gymnasium wondering where that game disappeared to after losing to the visiting Blue Devils.

What was most frustrating about the loss was that Cass (7-12) easily won the first set, 25-16, before Model found its “A” game in winning the last two sets, 22-25 and 21-25, respectively.

“We were really pumped up heading in to the match,” said senior Brooklyn Whitener, whose serve and subsequent kill by Amber Bowen capped off a furious rally that gave Cass a 20-19 lead in the deciding third set.

That lead increased to 21-19 before Model reeled off the next six points. Each Blue Devil point was punctuated by a Kaylee Akin or Karlee Akin fist pump.

“Those two sisters are something else,” Cass coach Jamie Horton said. “They are extremely competitive whether they are competing in volleyball or basketball.”
